It's hard to admit that there are viable alternative energy sources when your real goal is the elimination of all energy sources and humanity in general.
People are scared of nuclear power because they don’t understand it. Nuclear reactors are very safe when operated correctly. Chernoble was a piece of shit reactor run by a bunch of incompetent buffoons under the broken Soviet system.
It would be impossible for a modern reactor to exploded the way that Chernoble did. No reactors in the United States ever used the dangerous and stupid design of the Chernoble reactor.
The fact is that nuclear reactors produce unthinkably large amounts of power with no health or environmental impact.
I have to disagree with you, I don’t think people are afraid of nuclear power because they don’t understand it. I think people are afraid of it because of Chernobyl, and while you claim that we won’t have an explosion like Chernobyl that doesn’t mean that there won’t be other problems. Like for instance Three Mile Island.
Also, some folks may be weary about using nuclear power since the other big association people have with ‘Nuclear’ tends to put the word in front of ‘warhead,’ ‘weapon,’ or ‘bomb.’
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that Nuclear isn’t clean or that it is a totally dangerous prospect, I am just pointing out that it is not a perfect solution. While nuclear may be hundreds of times better for the environment as an energy producer, when things going wrong, they go pretty seriously wrong. (see Chernobyl)
Tom: We might soon have a black president. We almost had a Jewish vice president. I’m proud that we, as a country, came together to elect a stupid president. Twice! That’s Equality of Opportunity in action.
Yes, Nuclear energy has its perks, but they still haven’t figured out what to do with the Nuclear waste….any suggestions on how to get over that hurdle? …and I swear if you say shoot it into space, I’ll hit you with a tack hammer!

Maybe the US would be willing to give nuclear more of a chance if our president actually learned how to pronounce the word

All this talk of nuclear energy is reminding me of that scene from Naked Gun:

You could always just shoot it into space…

Scott, my wife and I are putting carpet on the steps to the basement. Could we borrow that tack hammer?
