BeerMenus.com: Launch party, Q&A
(btw, this is our 1,001 post!)
American Madness had a virtual sit down with Eric Stephens, cofounder (with his brother Will) of BeerMenus.com. We wanted to get his thoughts on the wider-ranging implications of the most immediately useful web site since imdb.com came along to help us win movie trivia debates.
The founders just announced that their launch party will be held on Saturday, May 24 at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleeker Street).
Q&A
I’m wondering if you have some way to save current vs. future price data, because I’m curious to see if (by essentially creating a price quotation system much like a stock market) you have a dramatic effect on leveling prices, especially for beers like Duvel that seem to range in price to a significant degree.
We keep track of how all the menus change over time. I don’t think price is the most important factor to craft beer lovers, but I’m sure it could affect where people decide to go in certain situations. It will be interesting to see if bar managers start to use BeerMenus as a reference when they set prices.
Have you done any calculations on most prevalent beer, average price, etc.?
We’ve started to explore a few calculations, but we’ve only scratched the surface at this point.
Do you plan to launch WineMenus.com?
Not at this point, but I think there’s an opportunity there.
Will you expand the service to all major cities (like craigslist)?
Definitely. We’re focused on Manhattan and Brooklyn right now, but we’re looking to expand to other cities as soon as possible.
Has a beer conglomerate offered to buy you?
Not yet : )

Maybe before you start with your plans for other cities you should finish off New York first. New York is not just composed of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Where is the love for Staten Island, Bronx and the Q?
On the flip-side you didn’t include Jersey, which is a good thing.
