Isn’t it cute how Google is so distracted?

Google is Evil LogoMaybe this is why Google is only slowly making improvements on its gmail program or why the maps programs seems to lag so severely behind Google World.

Isn’t it just adorable how a Google engineer actually says in the New York Times, “In my free time, I do engineering” while spending a heck of a lot of time getting his photo taken with visiting celebrities and dignitaries?

We all know the Google-as-fun image is a whole load of horse crap, anyway. Unless they find it fun to help the Chinese restrict free searching. I don’t think I would find that amusing.

google-tan1.jpgSo, this character Tan Chade-Meng (seen here in a photo with the famous Happy Faced man), who maintains a personal web page boasting that, “Life is too important to be taken seriously,” works nicely into the happy-go-lucky Google image.

I’m not buying it, and it’s annoying, frankly. I like Google’s products, but even though my use of those products arguably generate hundreds of dollars in ad revenues for Google, the few times I’ve tried to get any product support, I’ve gotten little response.

Google should spend less time getting its picture taken and more time on improving products. You are not invincible. A company that gives a crap about its end users (and not just its advertising customers) is going to attack one day, but you won’t notice while you’re posing with Madeleine Albright and chatting with the New York Times.

  1. Mossberg seems to think that Yahoo Mail is better. I tend to agree.

Google is certainly not invincible and the competition is catching up fast in all areas.

Ask.com is often much better for search, especially when you just want to see a variety of information on a specific topic. Try typing in a country name or your favorite animal to see what I mean.

  2. Um- Anyone think it might be a bad idea to bad mouth Google as they are the number 1 referring site to this blog. Let’s all take a step back for a moment, take a deep breath and thank Google for all of their wonderful support (also notice those Google ads on the left that send us pennies a day).

Apparently Google does blacklist- and it would kind of suck to be blacklisted by them as far as I am concerned (plus gmail is my primary email account)

  3. They’ll have to pay a whole lot more before I stop criticizing them.

I think they get a hell of a deal. They get everyone’s content and they pay out pennies. Not bad.

Also, let’s just say google was a friend of mine. You’d tell your friend he has an integrity problem, right? Friends don’t let friends collude with totalitarian regimes.
